The Chris Snyder/Susan Jones - Music Therapy RoomCompleted in September 2009, the new music therapy room at the W. Ross Macdonald School is an ultimate learning music experience for a variety of students here at the school. It can be thought of as Snoezelen room focused on music. The floor has been transformed into a sound stage with four speakers placed in the raised hardwood. There are also three soundwalls which contain speakers and are encased in wooden walls on three sides of the room. Sound vibrations have been found to promote relaxation in both individuals who are blind and deafblind. It can also increase range of motion and movement, enhance pain reduction and overall improvement of quality of life, and encourage positive physiological responses and positive outcomes with children suffering from psychological disorders such as autism. The room is also fully accessible, with a ramp that directs students into the room. This fantastic addition to W. Ross has been made possible by donations from the Chris Snyder/ Susan Jones Memorial Trust Funds and especially, their families. The students and staff are extremely grateful for these kind donations and look forward to utilizing the Music Therapy Room for many years to come.
