May

Trillium School secondary students. In early May, Trillium School secondary students ventured out on a field trip to Conestoga College in Kitchener . The purpose of the trip was twofold: to provide an opportunity for students to experience college life for a day, and to become aware of the accommodations and supports made available to students with learning exceptionalities.

Trillium students were greeted and addressed by Disability Services Representative, Amy Baird, as well as a fourth year Conestoga student who has been effectively navigating college in spite of his own learning differences. Trillium students were inspired listening to this student’s post secondary success story.

Students then received a guided tour of the facility and were given the opportunity of observe students in class working (e.g. the adaptive technology computer lab).

Throughout the day, Trillium students were reminded of the power of their own self-advocacy skills and the assistance that is available to them once they enrol in a community college.

Thank you to Mr. Vescio and Ms. Baird for organizing such an inspiring field trip!
