Principal's Message

Sagonaska School serves students with severe learning disabilities in a residential setting in Belleville, Ontario.

Sagonaska School provides an intensive one-year program for junior/intermediate students focusing on increasing students' capacity for success in regular school settings. The decision to extend the program for a second year for a student is made by the Principal in consultation with the school team. The program emphasizes
reading and writing development, assistive technology training, learning strategies instruction and the development of social skills, self-advocacy and self-esteem. QUEST is a specialized program within Sagonaska School. It serves students with severe Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Learning Disabilities
(LD).

Application to Sagonaska School is made by a district school board following the recommendation of an Identification, Placement, and Review Committee (IPRC) meeting. Admission decisions are made by the Provincial Committee on Learning Disabilities (PCLD), which meets twice per year. Student admission criteria includes a
diagnosis of a learning disability by a registered Psychologist and identification by an IPRC meeting as Communication: Learning Disabled. The program is not designed for students who present with severe emotional or behavioural issues.
