Elementary Program

Our school provides an American Sign Language/English bilingual/bicultural educational programming for students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. All admissions require an Identification, Placement and Review (IPRC) meeting conducted at the child’s local school board. A Provincial School Admissions Committee considers all applications to our school.

Student programs are created that match the abilities and needs of each child with high expectations that everyone will achieve according to their potential. Ministry of Education curriculum is used with Individual Education plans having a notation of accommodated, modified or alternative according to the assessment data showing student past achievement. American Sign Language Curriculum is formally taught to develop and support a student’s acquisition of literacy: leaning the language, learning through the language, learning about the language; and, the rich literature of American Sign Language (ASL) and culture. Cross language learning occurs wherein students are taught to use first and second language referencing to provide background and comparative knowledge for being bilingual. Other alternative courses that are specific to our school’s programs are Spoken English and Computers & Technology. Foundational and maturing fluent bilingual and technological literacies are expectations for our students. A goal of our school is to promote confident to embrace the future, life-long learners.

Academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular teams, clubs and activities allow lifelong friendships to begin and grow in our school.

Our staffs are specialised Teachers, Education Assistants and Resource Support Personnel who are bilingual/bicultural and specialised in education for Deaf children. As a school we are committed to providing educational and social opportunities that will promote self-confidence and responsible citizens for today and tomorrow’s local, national and international communities.
