LD and ADHD Program
Our residential LD/ADHD program (The Raptors) is intended for students with diagnosed severe learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This program provides intensive interventions to prepare students for return to a school program in their home community within one year. Students are supported for one additional year upon returning to their home and community school.
Our Staff:
- child and youth workers
- social worker
- specialist teacher of students with learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
- child psychologist and child psychiatrist
The School Program:
- small class size – approximately 6-8 students
- intensive instruction based on the Ontario curriculum and remedial programming
- emphasis on strategies that enhance attention and effective learning behaviour
- specialized attention to building self esteem, independence and organization skills
- in-class support from teacher and child and youth workers
- individual goal setting and program model
- close monitoring and support of each student’s academic, social and emotional progress
- regular contact with parents and home school throughout residential year and following re-integration into community school
The Residential Program:
- works closely with the teacher, social worker, psychologist and psychiatrist
- collaborates with family to transfer skills and strategies to home environment
- encourages independence and responsibility through daily goals and routines
- students participate in social skills exercises and off campus trips which afford opportunities to practice these skills
- provides ongoing education to parents and students about ADHD and LD through lifeskills program
- promotes involvement in school teams and clubs
- offers individual counseling, behaviour modification and goal setting for positive change
- enhance skills in developing positive peer relationships
