Strategic Plan
Background:
In our quest for ongoing improvement, a strategic planning committee was struck in 2005-2006 to begin a deliberate planning process involving the collection of data to inform future decision making. Data was collected through surveys and public meetings.
A Strategic Planning Steering Committee was struck with representation from a wide range of stakeholders.
The Strategic Planning process is ongoing including an annual review process.
Given the inclusive and representative nature of the process, it has strengthened internal and external relationships. Many external stakeholders who were involved in our strategic planning process indicate increased awareness and support of provincial schools.
We are deeply appreciative of the time, skill and dedicated effort given by all in this collaborative venture.

Goals:
The Strategic Planning Steering Committee identified three goals for our strategic planning process:
- To ensure provision of the best educational possibilities for our students
- To enhance the culture and structure of our schools
- To improve organizational effectiveness to support student success
Strengths:
Respondents to surveys and input at town hall meetings identified the following strengths on which to build:
- Provincial and Demonstration schools provide a much needed service to students and their families that is greatly appreciated by many. “The idea of the school is right” (student). “Keep up the good work!” (parent).
- Provincial and Demonstration schools have knowledgeable and supportive staff. The secondment of teachers and teacher exchanges enable our system to both benefit from and further develop the skills and knowledge of specialist teachers.
- Provincial schools hold a strong, historical reputation.
- Residential programs are highly valued and greatly appreciated by students and their families, offering extended opportunities for student learning. Residential staff provide exceptional support in life skills and in addressing social issues.
- Students are supported by a range of on-site professional support personnel.
- Provincial and Demonstration schools hold established partnerships with Ontario School Boards, post secondary institutions, social agencies, community organizations and local businesses
- Resource and Consultative services are provided to families and school boards across Ontario.
- Students are provided with many opportunities to develop leadership and social skills through increased extra-curricular and recreational activities.
- Provincial and Demonstration schools provide leadership in assistive technology and specialized equipment for specific populations.
